A little detour

Although my summer days are coming to an end  I am making sure that those days are spent with a BANG.

I had a fantastic time in London visiting my brother and walking around the city - taking in the old houses and apartments.  It's slightly overwhelming to think that the USA was just a twinkle in London's eye at one point.  There is just SO much history in her streets. 

We took a tour of the Victoria and Albert Museum.  One stop on the tour was the famous Great Bed of Ware, which allegedly had 26 men and their wives "sleeping" together in one night.  Oh those crazy Brits!  I also enjoyed seeing the V&A's expansive fashion design collection.  (Of course the knitted sweaters is what I wanted to see the most!).

A trip to Harrods, Buckingham Palace and a small peek at Big Ben rounded out our London sightseeing before we headed off to another unexpected city on our short trip...

Amsterdam.

We only got to spend 24 hours in this great city and already  I cannot wait to go back!  We took the slight detour just for the hell of it - to take our trip "to the next level". A quick booking of flights and a short cab ride we were in the middle of the city before we knew what we were doing!  I am amazed at her beauty.  We spent the day walking around and getting lost - finding new things around every corner. (Red Light District was a bit of a shocker for these eyes! haha!)

It's a walker's city for sure!  The cobble stone paths and beautiful canals, there's no other way to see Amsterdam.  One highlight of our day was going to the Van Gogh museum.  To see the beauty of Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Irises paintings up close is breathtaking... it's amazing to see such talent and to think he never knew or didn't believe in his skills!

The Heineken Experience was closed, sadly, but that's all the more reason to return!  If you're an avid bike rider, this city is also for you.  I nearly got run over a few times but was impressed at all the bicyclers!  And the pancakes!!! oh these aren't Aunt Jemima's... they're just so much better ;-)

I think my final summer trip was a perfect ending - cultural, unexpected, satisfying, and seeming long! I cannot wait to go back but I have a few other important things to attend to.  Maybe a 1st year wedding anniversary present, perhaps?  ha!

In knitting news: am on the sleeves of the Rebecca sweater!  Almost done! I did find a few minor mistakes in the pattern pertaining to stitch count.  Nothing severe but I'll make note of it in my final post!

Hey - I have been reading your blog for so long now, SINCE before I became a knitter. Your trip looked amazing.

I have a question for you. I live in NJ and i am looking for a few yarn shops. I think I recall reading that you are from the NJ area. If you would know of a few i would really appreciate that. Right now I go to one near my job but I am a girl that likes choices.

Please NO chain stores.
